A new culture of light
It was his passion for a new concept and appreciation of light that inspired graduate mechanical engineer Axel Meise to start his own business in 1990. When the company launched the Occhio brand eight years later it heralded the arrival of an entirely modular lighting system on the market. To this day, the firm’s goal is to provide the optimum lighting solution for every space, and in particular one that adapts to the specific parameters of both the space itself and the use thereof.
At the 2018 edition of Light + Building Winkels created a space that placed Occhio’s premium lighting centre stage and demonstrated its versatility. The concept for the 480-square-metre stand was developed by architecture studio “1 zu 33” and implemented by Winkels. Referred to as “The Highrise”, it took visitors to the urban landscapes of an international metropolis and exhibited products in a number of different scenes: The “Store” with its restaurant and shop, the apartment-style “Private” area with its separate dining room, a business club and co-working space in the “Public” zone and a roof-top bar and garden with views out over the city. The result was an environment in which visitors could appreciate and experience all the many facets of the firm’s motto: “A new culture of light”.
The success of our first project with Occhio has since led to a variety of other assignments both as a creator of stands for trade fairs and exhibitions and as an outfitter of showrooms at locations around the globe, some of which we have been given overall responsibility for. “We are delighted by the continuing trust and cooperation between our companies – we have already achieved some fantastic results together,” enthuses Dominik Winkels, Managing Director of Winkels Interior Design Exhibition GmbH.
